What is the Purpose of the Great Basin Mathematics Council?

The Great Basin Math Council (GBMC) is a professional organization promoting active interest in  mathematics and mathematics education.  GBMC is a local affiliate o the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and works with the Nevada Mathematics Council in assisting statewide communications among mathematics teachers.  It joins the other local affiliates, Southern Nevada Mathematics Council and Northern Mathematics Council, in the promotion of mathematics and mathematics education among all teachers in Nevada.
What Will Membership Do For Me?

The other local affiliates in the state offer a variety of in-service opportunities that assist mathematics educators in imparting mathematical knowledge to all of their students and have setup networks of teachers who are willing to help and lend their support to others where needed.  By organizing the northeastern Nevada affiliate, it is hoped that we can also begin to provide an increased number of professional development workshops in mathematics for our rural teachers.  We will also organize a variety of mathematics contests and other activities for our students as well as provide support for fellow teachers where needed.
